DES MOINES, Iowa (June 8, 2015) - The Pacific Coast League announced on Monday Iowa infielder Christian Villanueva has been named Player of the Week for the week of June 1-7.

Villanueva hit .333 (10-for-30) with four homers, two doubles, a triple, 12 RBI, nine runs and two walks last week. He hit home runs on four consecutive nights from June 1-4, a career best. It was the first time an I-Cub had homered in four straight games since Scott Moore did it July 15-17, 2007.

The 23-year-old led in the league in home runs, RBI, total bases (26) and slugging (.867) over last week. He ranked second in runs and extra-base hits (11).

Villanueva is the first I-Cub to win a weekly award this season, and first since Arismendy Alcantara won Player of the Week June 23-29, 2014. It is Villanueva's first weekly award since winning Southern League Player of the Week in September of 2013.

The Mexico native was signed by the Texas Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in 2008. He was acquired by the Chicago Cubs on July 31, 2012 in a trade along with pitcher Kyle Hendricks in exchange for pitcher Ryan Dempster.

Villanueva is hitting .285 (41-for-144) with seven home runs, eight doubles and 25 RBI in 42 games for Iowa this season. He began the year with Double-A Tennessee, where he hit .208 (5-for-24) with two home runs and seven RBI in six games.
