IF Javy Baez Placed on Disabled List, OF Matt Szczur Activated by Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (June 8, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs made a series of roster moves affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against Memphis at Principal Park. Infielder Javy Baez has been placed on the disabled list with a broken bone in his left hand. Outfielder Matt Szczur has been activated by Iowa after being optioned to Triple-A on Sunday. Additionally, infielder Ryan Dent has been promoted to Iowa from Double-A Tennessee, and infielder Varonex Cuevas has been reassigned to Short-A Eugene.

Baez, 22, is hitting .214 (44-for-158) with eight home runs and 29 RBI for Iowa this season. He also has seven stolen bases and a .386 on-base percentage in 37 games for the I-Cubs.

Szczur, 25, is batting .330 (29-for-88) with three doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBI in 24 games year. This is his third stint with the I-Cubs, and he returns in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak. He has hit .167 (6-for-36) with two doubles in 23 games for Chicago this season.

Dent, 26, is batting .212 (31-for-146) with two home runs and 14 RBI in 50 games for Tennessee this season, appearing in all but two of the games this year for the Smokies.

Cuevas, 22, is batting .333 (1-for-3) with one strikeout in two games with Iowa this season.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is full at 25 players plus one player on the disabled list.
