New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Mat Latos allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings in a Major League rehab start, and Derek Dietrich hit an RBI triple to spark the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 3-1 win over the Nashville Sounds on Monday night.

The Z's earned two wins on the day by rallying to take the resumption of an April 27 game that was suspended by rain.

The suspended game was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth when play continued, and remained scoreless until the Sounds broke through in the sixth on a Kent Matthes RBI double.

Nashville doubled its lead an inning later, as Joey Wendle followed back-to-back singles by Luke Carlin and Alden Carrithers with a sacrifice fly, but the Z's responded in their half of the inning.

A single by Juan Diaz and walks to Scott Sizemore and Brandon Bantz loaded the bases for Isaac Galloway, who ripped a single past first baseman Anthony Aliotti to tie the game.

Austin Wates laced a single to score the go-ahead run, and Cole Gillespie provided an insurance run with a single through the hole at shortstop for a 4-2 lead.

The Sounds rallied in the ninth, as Z's closer Nick Wittgren surrendered a leadoff double to Craig Gentry and walked Carlin. With two outs, Matthes lined a single to right to score Gentry, but Wates threw out Carlin attempting to advance to third for the final out of the game.

Travis Blackley (1-2) scattered two runs and six hits in four innings to pick up his first win of the year, and Wittgren was credited with his seventh save.

The Zephyrs struck early in the nightcap as Dietrich followed a one-out walk to Reid Brignac with a triple into the right field corner for a 1-0 lead.

Brignac scored again in the third inning after reaching on a bloop single and coming around on a two-out single by Jesus Flores, and a double by Juan Diaz provided the Zephyrs with a three-run cushion.

Latos labored through 4 2/3 innings, allowing one run and three hits but walked five to run his pitch count to 99 pitches before being removed with two outs and two on in the fifth, one out shy of qualifying for the win.

Fabian Williamson (2-1) induced a pop-up from Bryan Anderson to escape the jam, then retired the side in order in the sixth. Lay Batista, making only his second Triple-A appearance, worked around a walk in the seventh to nail down the save.

Chris Bassitt (3-5) gave up three runs and five hits in a six-inning complete game loss for Nashville.

The Zephyrs and Sounds wrap up the four-game series on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
