Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON - The Brockton Rox are pleased to announce that Field Manager Chris Miyake will return to manage the team for a second season in 2007. Under Miyake's stewardship, the Rox have won 47 games in 2006 (through 88 played) and have a chance to break the franchise record in wins with a sweep in the final five-game series of the season. Brockton has the league's third-best overall record in 2006 and has clinched a 2006 playoff berth.

"Chris has kept us in playoff contention all season," said Rox owner Van Schley. "He has handled the players well in his first year at the helm. He deserves another year leading the Rox."

Miyake, 32, became the second manager in Rox history when he was promoted to the post in October 2005. He spent the previous three seasons as the club's hitting coach. The Rox finished fourth in the league in hitting last season with a .284 average, with the second highest total of hits (917). Under Miyake's guidance in 2004 the Rox led the league in home runs (87), and finished second in the loop for fewest strikeouts (512).

The southern California native was drafted in the 22nd round in 1995 by the Pittsburgh Pirates and advanced as high as Double A Carolina in 1998. He spent the next three seasons playing independent ball, for Adirondack, Albany and New Jersey. Miyake's coaching career began in 2002, when he became hitting coach for the Adirondack Lumberjacks of the Northern League. In 2003, he joined the Rox as hitting coach.

2007 Brockton Rox Season Tickets are now available by calling the Brockton Rox Ticket Office at 508-559-7070.
