DURHAM, NC - The Tampa Bay Rays have called up RHP Chris Archer, who joins the team in Washington, D.C. The current International League strikeout leader is scheduled to make his Major League debut on Wednesday against the Nationals and Stephen Strasburg.

The Bulls ace has started 14 games for Durham this season, maintaining a 4-8 record with a 4.81 ERA and a league leading 90 strikeouts. Archer was masterful in his last start on June 14th against Lehigh Valley. He snapped a four game losing streak by tossing a season high 7.0 IP, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking three and striking out five. Eight of his last 10 outings have been quality starts, including his career-high 12 strikeout game against the Norfolk Tides on May 24th.

Originally acquired in the deal that sent Matt Garza to the Chicago Cubs, Archer entered the 2012 season as the number three prospect in the Rays system (Baseball America). Archer was born in Raleigh and attended High School in Clayton, NC. He has spent the entire 2012 season with the Bulls, and pitched two games for the club at the tail end of the 2011 season.

The Durham Bulls return home to the DBAP on Friday, June 22nd for an eight game homestand featuring visits from the Buffalo Bisons and the Syracuse Chiefs. Tickets for all Bulls regular season home games and the 2012 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game are available online at durhambulls.com, by phone at 919.956.BULL, or in person at the DBAP ticket office.
