Chivas USA to face Charleston Battery June 30

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, June 17, 2009) - Chivas USA will face the Charleston Battery of the USL First Division (USL-1) in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, June 30 in Charleston, S.C. The Battery, the 2008 Open Cup runner-up, defeated Miami F.C. (USL-1) by a 1-0 score on Tuesday night in Miami, earning a matchup against Chivas USA. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston.

Chivas USA will be looking to advance past the Third Round for the first time since 2005, when the Red-and-White won a road match at the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Second Division before falling to the LA Galaxy in the Fourth Round. In 2006, Chivas USA lost to Dallas Roma FC in the Third Round, and fell to the Seattle Sounders, then of USL-1, at the same stage in 2007 and 2008.

SuperLiga 2009, the third annual competition which pits top soccer teams from Mexico and the United States against each other for local bragging rights and one of the biggest purses in the region, kicks off for Chivas USA this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center when the Red-and-White take on Tigres UANL of the Mexican First Division.
