Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS, Ohio - After earning its second consecutive win Sunday (June 14) against Chivas USA to extend its unbeaten streak to nine games (4-0-5), the Crew travels to North Texas this Saturday to face Western Conference foe FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
Saturday's match, which kicks off at 8:30 p.m. ET, will be televised live nationally on Fox Soccer Channel, with Mark Rogondino and Christopher Sullivan calling all the action and Christian Miles providing sideline coverage. The match can also be heard in English on News/Talk 610 WTVN, and on-line at TheCrew.com and MLSNet.com, with Dwight Burgess behind the microphone, as well as in Spanish on La Que Buena 1550-AM.
FC Dallas, which is currently seventh in the Western Conference standings with 10 points, enters the match after falling to the Houston Dynamo, 3-1, last Saturday (June 13) at Pizza Hut Park. Houston's Cam Weaver and Richard Mulrooney each tallied in the first half, and Weaver struck with a second score after the halftime restart before Drew Moor got FC Dallas on the board with its lone score of the match just minutes later. The Hoops, who are 1-1-3 in their last five Major League Soccer matches, have been led by striker Kenny Cooper, Moor and midfielder Dave van den Bergh in the attack this season. Cooper leads the team with six goals in 2009, while Moor sits second with three scores to his credit and van den Bergh leads the squad with four assists.
The Crew, which has won four of its last six games and is tied for third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-2-7 record and 19 points, enters Saturday's match after defeating Western Conference co-leader Chivas USA, 2-1, last Sunday (June 14) at Crew Stadium. With the Crew trailing Chivas at halftime, thanks to Eduardo Lillingston's goal in the 39th minute, reigning MLS MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto tallied his ninth and 10th goals of the season in the second half to give the Crew the comeback win. In the 61st minute, Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum sent a booming goal kick into the Chivas USA half which sailed over two opposing players challenging for the header. Schelotto shielded the second ball from Chivas USA defender Carey Talley, gained possession and fired a low driving shot into the bottom left corner for the match equalizer. Schelotto broke the deadlock in the 87th minute when Crew defender Gino Padula sent a lofted cross that sailed just over the defense and into the penalty area. Schelotto settled the ball and calmly slotted another low shot into the far corner under the outstretched arms of Chivas' Zach Thornton to give the Crew three points and the victory at home. Schelotto, who now leads MLS with 10 goals this season, earned Week 13 MLS Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
