Lakeshore Chinooks News Release

Looking to bounce back, the Lakeshore Chinooks (8-11) faced the Madison Mallards (11-8) for a doubleheader on the road.

However, in game one, the Chinooks fell to the first-place Mallards 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Warner Park.

Lakeshore's offense found its spark early in this seven-inning contest. In the top of the third inning, Trey Becker drew a one-out walk and Jack Counsell drove him home with his first triple of the summer.

Gabe Roessler extended his team's lead with a RBI sacrifice fly, putting the Chinooks ahead 2-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.

However, Madison didn't wait long to respond. In the bottom of the third, Mike Gupton hit a leadoff double to left center field and was driven home one batter later by Ryan Sprock as his single cut his team's deficit in half.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth inning. Jake Goolsby drew a one-out walk and Cal Fisher then cleared the bases with a two-run home run over the left field wall, giving the Mallards a 3-2 lead.

Fisher's homer would be the difference in this one as the Chinooks were unable to score in the top of the seventh, dropping game one of the doubleheader.

Lakeshore was outhit 4-1 on the day with Counsell having the only hit for the Chinooks.

The Chinooks' starting pitcher Jason Buhl pitched four innings of one-run ball, giving up three hits and striking out three batters.

In two innings of work, Lakeshore reliever Zach Slome (L, 0-2) gave up the game-winning home run and struck out one batter.
