Battle Jacks Run out of Gas in Green Bay, Lose to Rockers 14-2

Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

Green Bay, WI - The surging Green Bay Rockers (31-25, 10-10) powered their way over the Battle Creek Battle Jacks (21-35, 11-11), 14-2.

This was the final day of the seven games in six days road trip for Battle Creek. After losing a heartbreaker to the Rockers 15 hours earlier, the Battle Jacks had not only the fatigue of playing on the road for the sixth straight day but also the quick turnaround of a rain-delayed evening game into an afternoon game. As a result, the Battle Jacks, who stayed within striking distance through the first eight innings, gave up eight runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Whether it was costly fielding errors, dropped strike three situations that turned into errors, or giving up home runs, it was clear that Battle Creek just ran out of gas after a strenuous road trip.

There were a few bright spots for the Jacks today. Riley Silva (Nebraska) drove in Jay Adams (Concordia) on a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning. In addition, Blake Salamon, who played for the Rockers in 2021, scorched his third home run of the season over the wall in center field in the top of the 8th inning. The Battle Jacks also struck out nine Green Bay players defensively including five punch outs from Ryan Wilwers (MidAmerica Nazarene) and four strikeouts by MacCallen Conklin (Illinois State).

It is difficult to win on the road in the Northwoods League. Despite that fact, the Dogs managed to win three games along the road trip, keeping themselves in the thick of the playoff race. The three-day all-star break is at a perfect time for the Battle Jacks to recharge their batteries for the final two weeks of the season. The next game for Battle Creek is against the Kokomo Jackrabbits at MCCU Field on Thursday.
