LANSING - The Peoria Chiefs scored in each of the last four innings of the game, taking a 7-3 decision over the Lansing Lugnuts before 8,956 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night. The loss sent the Lugnuts to their eighth straight loss.
Robinson Chirinos, a former Lugnut, opened the scoring in the first inning with a two run homer to make it 2-0.
Lansing fought back in the bottom of the frame when Anthony Hatch doubled to left-center field and scored on a Joey Metropoulos single to left to cut the lead to 2-1. It was the first run for Lansing in 19 innings.
The Lugnuts tied the game in third when Yuber Rodriguez singled, stole second base, and scored on a Luke Hetherington single to make it 2-2.
Peoria regained the advantage in the sixth when Yusuf Carter blasted a two run homer to left field to make it 4-2.
The Chiefs extended the lead in the seventh when Chirinos walked. After stealing second base, Chirinos scored when moving to third base on a Valdez infield single and scored on a Lansing throwing error.
Lansing added a run in the seventh when Brian Pettway tripled and scored on a David Hicks sacrifice fly that made it 5-3, but the Lugnuts would not get any closer in the game.
Scott Taylor (6-5) got the win for Peoria, throwing seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. He fanned five in the start.
Casey McKenzie (0-3) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts after allowing four runs on seven hits in six frames. Only three runs were earned.
Scott Koerber picked up his second his save of the season.
Lansing (49-46, 9-19) and Peoria (57-40, 16-12) will play the third game of the series Saturday evening. Aaron Tressler (6-4, 2.28) will take the mound for the Lugnuts, while Jesse Estrada (5-1, 4.05) will take the ball for the Chiefs. LAFCU Fireworks will follow the game. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
