Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - A record crowd of 4,238 was on hand at the War Memorial for the Chiefs game against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night, but Cyclones goalie Cedrick Desjardins pitched a 2-0 shutout to spoil the party.

The Chiefs had quite a few good scoring opportunities in the first two periods, notably partial breakaways by Michael Cohen in the first and Jean Desrochers in the second, but were unable to cash in. Andrew Penner was every bit Desjardins' equal as the Cyclones couldn't find a way to beat the Chiefs' netminder.

Barret Ehgoetz finally broke through when he shuffled a rebound past Penner on the power play at 7:40 of the third. Bryan Schmidt took the initial shot from the point which Penner saved, but the puck rolled toward the goal line where Ehgoetz was waiting.

Mathieu Aubin would ice the game with an empty-net goal from center ice with exactly one minute left in the game.

Penner finished with 37 saves against 38 shots, and Desjardins was a perfect 17-for-17. Cincy's 1-for-4 effort on the power play was the difference, while the Chiefs were 0-for-4.

The next Chiefs home game is on Saturday, December 1 against the Wheeling Nailers at 7:05. The US Marines and Cool 101.7 are sponsoring the annual toy toss game. Bring a new stuffed animal to the game and throw it on the ice when the Chiefs score their first goal. All tossed toys will go to the Marines' Toys for Tots drive. Great seats are still available, call 536-5156 or go to johnstownchiefs.com to reserve yours today!!
