Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers and the Columbia Inferno would play the second game of a home and home series tonight at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice and it would only take one goal to tell the story.

In the first period, the lone goal came off the stick of Checkers forward, Dusty Jamieson after defenseman, Jared Nightingale sent a puck wide on the Inferno net where forward, Jordan Owens sent it through the crease and Jamieson knocked it past a sprawling Inferno goaltender, Jeff Jakaitis at 16:49. It would be the only goal surrendered in the game as Checkers goaltender, Curtis Darling would stop all 23 shots that came his way as Charlotte skated away with a 1-0 victory. Despite both teams having five power play opportunities, neither would net a goal with the man advantage. The goal would be Jamieson's team leading eighth of the season.

The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Dec. 1 against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399. The Checkers are accepting deposits on all ticket packages. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
