Wheeling Nailers News Release

TRENTON, NJ - Three, first period goals allowed the Trenton Devils to hold onto a 3-1 win over the Wheeling Nailers Friday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena. It marks the first time that the Devils have won back-to-back games this season, beating the Nailers in both games.

Michael Cohen scored his first professional goal at 6:30 of the first period. His shot from the blue line ricocheted off a pile of players in front of the goal and banked past David Brown. Thomas Harrison and Joe Rooney were given assists on the play.

Less then five minutes later, Mark Pandolfo powered his way to the front of the net for his first goal of the season after spending the first two months with the Lowell Devils (AHL).

The final goal of the game for the Devils came at the 17:11 mark of the first period. Eric Castonguay converted a feed from Rooney for his sixth goal of the season.

Wheeling came out a different team in the second period with a different goalie in net. Martin Houle replaced Brown, seeing his first game action since Nov. 3. He turned away all 29 shots he faced in his 37:12 of work.

The Nailers got a lift from an unlikely source as Vin Hellemeyer scored the lone goal for the Nailers at 10:12 of the second. Hellemeyer, who played with the Nailers during the 2006-07 season, signed a one-game contract just before the start of the game. Aaron Clarke left the puck off for Hellemeyer in the slot who fired the puck upstairs on Dave Caruso. Clarke now has four points (2g, 2a) in four games since being activated off the injured reserve.

The teams played a scoreless final 29 minutes as the Nailers went scoreless on five power-play attempts.

Wheeling will take on the Chiefs in Johnstown Saturday at 7:05p.m. before returning home to face the Reading Royals on Sunday. Game time is set for 6:05p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their own skates and gloves to skate with the team after the game. Kids tickets are just $5 throughout the month of December.
