Spokane Chiefs News Release
Third period goals by David Rutherford and Drayson Bowman brought the Chiefs back from a 1-0 deficit and gave them a 2-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Tuesday night in the Spokane Arena. The game begins a week of four games in five nights, three at home and the next two versus the Everett Silvertips. Spokane also closes the gap on the Tri-City Americans to four points for first place in the U.S. Division. The Chiefs still have one game in hand.
The Rockets scored at the 10:00 mark of the first period when Colin Long sniped a puck through traffic on the power play. The game would stay 1-0 for the visitors until Rutherford's power play goal at 10:31 of the third. Judd Blackwater's pass from below the goal line found the 20-year-old cutting to the net. Rutherford used a backhand for his 14th of the season.
Blackwater also helped set up the game winner, but it was a move by defenseman Jared Spurgeon that created the play. Spokane's leading scorer from the blueline weaved through the Kelowna defense and backhanded it through the slot to a waiting Bowman who roofed it with 2:32 remaining.
The Chiefs have won back-to-back games and have points in their last three. Spokane will travel to Everett on Wednesday night for a 7:00 date with the Silvertips. Everett will visit Spokane on Friday night when the Chiefs auction off their game worn jerseys in the Jersey off the Back Night presented by Comcast. Saturday, Spokane will host the Tri-City Americans on Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by Covey Run Winery.
Tickets to all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
