Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- One of the youngest performers to ever compete at the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships will be recognized during this Friday night's Western Hockey League game at Westman Communications Group Place when the Brandon Wheat Kings play host to the Kamloops Blazers.
14-year old Kaleigh Hole, a grade 9 student at Virden Collegiate Institute, has been chosen February's recipient of the Manitoba Blue Cross Performer of the Month Award following a successful year of skating across the country.
In addition to attending last month's National Championships in Vancouver, Kaleigh finished sixth overall in the junior women's short program at last year's Western Challenge in Mississauga, Ontario while earning a personal best of 104 points. She earned the right to attend Mississauga by capturing the Junior Ladies event at the Manitoba Sectionals in Portage la Prairie.
Kaleigh finished first in both the junior long and short program at the 2007 Sask Skate in Saskatoon, while finishing 8th overall at the Canada Winter Games last February in Whitehorse.
Kaleigh's plaque presentation will be made during the first intermission of Friday's game, which will be Brandon's second of a 6-game WHL home stand.
By capturing February's award, she becomes the fourth Manitoba Blue Cross Performer of the Month recipient for the 2007-08 campaign, joining the likes of Manitoba Hockey Hall of Famer Bill Maluta, Special Olympic athlete Arthur Haagstrom and 2-time provincial baseball champion Curtis Seafoot of Wawanesa. A fifth and final winner for 2007-08 will be announced in March.
This year marks the fourth season that western Manitoba hockey fans have been given the opportunity to visit the Wheat Kings' official web site and nominate coaches, volunteers, athletes and officials for this prestigious award.
Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
