Peoria Chiefs News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A first inning offensive outburst was not enough for the Peoria Chiefs to sustain as they fell 5-3 to Cedar Rapids Wednesday night.
The bats started off hot for Peoria in the first inning as they scored three runs on four hits. Peoria drew first blood off an RBI single from Brady Whalen, scoring Jhon Torres. Leandro Cedeno singled in the next at-bat to load the bases. Two more runs were driven in via a single from Zade Richardson. Cedar Rapids would tie the game at 3-3 in the next half inning with a three-run homer by Jair Camargo.
A pitchers duel ensued following the nearly 40 minute-long first inning. After four innings of scoreless baseball, a leadoff double and a throwing error by Peoria gave Cedar Rapids the lead for the first time in the ballgame. The Kernels added another run in the inning off a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-3 ballgame in the fifth inning, where the score stayed for the rest of the game.
Despite the loss, Peoria managed to outhit the Kernels 7-3 in the contest. The two teams will resume the series tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
