Chiefs Lose 4-1 Thursday

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs got a home run from Steve Bean and a quality start from Jimmy Reed but dropped the rubber game of the series to the Kane County Cougars 4-1 on Thursday night. The Chiefs record is 34-32 and they are two games out of the Wild Card race with three games left in the first half.

Kane County scored a run in the second inning against Reed. After retiring the first two batters, Reed allowed a bloop double to right to Cael Brockmeyer. Shawon Dunston Jr. followed with a single to center to score Dunston to give the Cougars the early lead.

The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the fifth. Dunston led off with an infield single and scored on Carlos Penalver's triple. Penalver scored on Jacob Hannemann's ground out to second for a 3-0 Cougars lead.

Each team scored a single run in the seventh. Chris Perry took over for Reed and got two strikeouts to begin the inning before Trey Martin got an infield single. Martin stole second before Hannemann walked and Danny Lockhart singled home Martin. Steve Bean answered with his first home run of the season in the bottom of the frame to make it a 4-1 Cougars advantage, but the Chiefs couldn't get any closer.

Reed (3-2) pitched the first six innings allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in the loss. Perry gave up a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts in an inning of work. Brandon Lee worked two scoreless innings allowing two hits.
