Bees Lose Lead; Win in Extras

(Clinton-IA) The Burlington Bees lost a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning but were able to sneak out a 3-2 win in extra innings in Clinton over the Clinton LumberKings on Thursday night.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Clinton grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Aaron Barbosa infield single, scoring Martin Peguero.

Chad Hinshaw tied the game in the sixth inning, slapping a single to right, scoring Erick Salcedo. Two batters later, Eric Aguilera singled to right, scoring Mike Fish and the Bees had the 2-1 lead.

Clinton put together four straight hits and tied the game in the ninth inning at two, sending it to extra innings.

Chad Hinshaw put the Bees up for good in the 11th, scoring on a wild pitch as the Bees would hang on for the win, 3-2.

Bees' starter Ryan Etsell worked six innings, striking out nine batters but did not factor into the decision. The win was picked up by Trevor Foss (3-5) while the loss was charged to Seon Gi Kim (1-1). For the second straight game, Joey Krehbiel earned the save. With losses by Quad Cities and Peoria, the Bees' magic number, to clinch the wild card, is down to one.

The Burlington Bees (36-30) head to Cedar Rapids to start a three game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Friday night at 6:30 PM. Clint Sharp makes the start for the Bees against Lewis Thorp of Cedar Rapids.
