Lake County Captains News Release


(South Bend, IN)- Lake County sent thirteen men to the plate and scored nine runs in the fourth inning, and went on to beat South Bend 13-6. In the inning, the Captains used eight hits and one walk to score the nine runs. The inning was the biggest run-producing inning of the season for Lake County. Clint Frazier knocked in three runs in the inning with a bases loaded double which cleared the bases. Cody Ferrell also knocked in two with a double to cap the inning. The 13 runs are the most Lake County has scored in a single game this season.

The Captains (25-42) scored first in the top of the first inning. With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Torsten Boss singled home both runs and it was 2-0 Captains after one inning.

The Silver Hawks (39-27) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning. South Bend sent nine men to the plate and used six hits to score four runs. The big hit in the inning was an RBI triple from Michael Perez. The Hawks led 4-2 after two innings.

Lake County came back to tie the game in the top of the third. Logan Vick led off with a triple and scored on the first of four RBI's from Clint Frazier who singled him home. Frazier later scored on a sacrifice fly from Eric Haase and the score was tied at four setting the stage for the huge fourth inning.

South Bend added two runs on a two run homer from Daniel Palka in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 13-6. That was the final.

RHP Robbie Aviles (1-1) was on the mound for the Captains. Aviles did not get a decision and pitched three innings and allowed six hits, four earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Alexis Paredes (2-1) got the win after pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits. Paredes fanned two. Ben Heller pitched the final two scoreless innings.

RHP John Omahen (1-2) started for South Bend and took the loss. Omahen pitched thre innings and allowed eight earned runs on eight hits. He walked one. The Hawks used two relief pitcher's who combined to pitch six innings and allow seven hits and five earned runs.

The Captains will travel to Dayton, OH on Friday to commence a three game series with the Dayton Dragons. The Captains will send RHP Dace Kime (0-9, 6.12) to the mound. The Dragons will counter with LHP Ismael Guillon (4-0, 2.79). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM from Fifth Third Field.
