
Chiefs Lose 11-3 Saturday

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs yielded seven runs in the third inning in an 11-3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night. The Chiefs record is 24-24 in the second half and 61-56 overall.
Wisconsin got on the board first with seven runs in the third inning against Arturo Reyes. Johnny Davis led off with a bunt single and Chris McFarland followed with a double that Vaughn Bryan misplayed to allow Davis to score. Michael Ratterree walked before Reyes got the first out. Clint Coulter was the next hitter and he crushed his 18th home run to left field to open up a 4-0 Timber Rattlers lead. Taylor Brennan walked in front of consecutive singles by Dustin DeMuth and Steven Halcomb to load the bases. Jose Pena doubled off the wall in left to score two runs and Steve Sabatino relieved Reyes. Sabatino's first batter was Davis, who hit a sacrifice fly to left to end the scoring in the inning at 7-0 Wisconsin.
The Rattlers got two more runs in the fourth. With one out, David Denson doubled before Coulter hit his second home run of the day. It was Coulter's 19th home run of the season, breaking a tie for third place with his teammate Ratterree and placing Coulter in a second place tie with Nellie Rodriguez of Lake County. Daniel Palka of South Bend leads the league with 22 homers.
The Chiefs got three runs back on one swing in the bottom of the fourth. Juan Herrera began the inning with a walk and Justin Ringo reached on catcher's interference. After an out, Rowan Wick hit an opposite-field three-run home run to cut the Chiefs deficit to 9-3.
Wisconsin scored one more run in the sixth inning. With two outs Denson walked and Coulter singled to center. Sabatino threw a wild pitch to move both runners into scoring position and left mid at-bat as Jhonny Polanco relieved. Polanco threw a wild pitch and Denson scored before Brennan fouled out to the catcher Steve Bean to end the inning.
The Rattlers final run came in the ninth against Blake McKnight. With two outs Halcomb hit a home run to left for his first professional homer.
Reyes (6-8) pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts to take the loss. Sabatino tossed 3 1/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Polanco went 2 1/3 scoreless innings allowing one hit with a walk and three strikeouts. McKnight pitched an inning giving up the solo home run with one strikeout.
