Chiefs Fight Late, But Fall to Everett Silvertips 6-3

Everett, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs couldn't get enough offense rolling in Everett Sunday night, as they fell to the division-leading Silvertips 6-3. The Chiefs have yet to take down the Silvertips this season, losing all 12 match-ups so far with two remaining.

Everett struck first on a goal from Dexter Whittle just over a minute into the game. They soon tacked on another at 5:27 when Caden Zaplitny netted his third of the year.

The Chiefs answered at 8:44 when Nick McCarry fired a missile from the high slot into the back of the net to bring Spokane within one. They kept it close through the rest of the period, heading into the break down 2-1.

The middle frame was all Everett, as the Silvertips piled on two more goals from Alex Swetlikoff (14:47) and Ben Hemmerling (17:05) to pull away with a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The third period was a back-and-forth affair, as the Chiefs struck first at 4:20 when McCarry swooped around the back of the net and snuck the puck over the line for his second of the night.

The Silvertips answered at 8:02 with a goal from Michal Gut to push their lead to 5-2, but Spokane was quick to respond as Reed Jacobson grabbed the puck away from a Silvertips on the right boards. Rookie winger Ty Cheveldayoff found it and slapped it into the net from the right face-off circle to make it 5-3.

Austin Roest sealed the deal for Everett with a hard-earned empty-netter at 17:49 to cap the scoring at 6-3.

Manny Panghli got the start in net for Spokane, turning aside 26-of-31 shots faced. On the other side of the ice, Koen MacInnes stopped 23-of-26 Chiefs shots.

Spokane struggled to capitalize on the man-advantage all night, going 0-for-5 on the power play, but 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

Up next, the Chiefs will face the same Everett Silvertips on the road Friday night before heading to Tri-City on Saturday.
