Chiefs Fall to Wheeling 4-1

November 8, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs power play failed them as they went 1 for 12 on the man advantage Friday night in a 4-1 loss at home to the Wheeling Nailers.

The Chiefs opened up the game with a P.L. Courchesne power play goal 2:20 into the contest. It would be all Wheeling from there as they got two goals and two assists from Chris McNamara, and a goal each from Mario LaRocque and Ryan Gillis.

The Chiefs had a 7:00 power play in the second period when Nailers defenseman Derek Ernest was whistled off for a two minute aggressor penalty, a fighting major, and a game misconduct as he mauled Chiefs winger Jason Spence. The Chiefs did not score on the extended power play.

The Chiefs out shot the Nailers 37-18 in the contest. Wheeling goaltender Mike Valley made 36 saves for his third win of the season, while Chiefs goaltender Dany Dallaire made 14 saves for his third loss of the season.

The Chiefs fall below .500 with a 5-6-0 record, while the Nailers improve to 4-9-1.

The Chiefs are back in action tomorrow night at home when they take on the Reading Royals at 7:30 p.m. The first 3,000 people through the gate will receive a FREE travel mug, courtesy of the PA Department of Environmental Protection.
