Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs couldn't solve Victoria's rookie goaltender Griffen Outhouse on Saturday night at Spokane Arena, losing 3-0. Outhouse made 24 saves in the winning effort.

Victoria found the net first, just 1:59 into regulation, to take a 1-0 lead. Rookie Matthew Phillips beat Chiefs' starting goalie Tyson Verhelst off an assist from Dante Hannoun.

The Royals added to their lead under five minutes later as Jack Walker rifled one from the right circle to put Victoria up 2-0. The goal, which came on a power play earned after a Too Many Men penalty on the Chiefs, was assisted by Royals' captain Joe Hicketts and Phillips.

Verhelst kept the Chiefs in the game all the way to the end - he made 23 saves on 26 shots - but the Royals found their icing on the cake at the 15:52 of the third period as Ryan Peckford punched in a rebound to reach the final margin. Walker and Tyler Soy earned assists.

The game dropped the Chiefs to 4-6-1-1 on the year for 10 points while Victoria broke a four-game losing skid and improved their record to 8-5-0-0.

Spokane went 0-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Chiefs hit the road for their next six games, beginning in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, October 28. They next return home for another TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaway Night at Spokane Arena on Wednesday, November 11 as they host the Everett Silvertips.

Tickets for Nov. 11 and all Chiefs' home games are available via TicketsWest, online at www.ticketswest.com and over-the-phone at 800-325-SEAT.
