Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Carter Hart made 32 saves for his sixth career shutout and Connor Dewar added a goal and an assist to lead the Everett Silvertips (5-3-0-0, 10 points) to a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds before a crowd of 7,311 at XFINITY Arena on Saturday.
The Silvertips, celebrating their seventh annual "Pink the Rink" game with their third win in four home games, earned a victory over their U.S. Division rival in the season series opener while snapping Seattle's six-game winning streak. Lucas Skrumeda added a second period goal, while the Silvertips held first round NHL draft pick Mathew Barzal to a -2 rating.
Hart's shutout was his second of the season, following up a 25-save effort last night against Portland. He improved to 3-0 in three lifetime appearances against the Thunderbirds.
Like last night, the Silvertips came out with sharp execution and earned five of the game's first six shots, but were unable to pierce starter Logan Flodell in the first 20 minutes. Seattle ripped off the next six shots following a power play, and Hart turned away all ten he faced in the first period.
Dewar finally ended a lengthy Silvertips scoring drought, over 95 minutes straight for a 1-0 lead at 2:25 of the second period. The rookie forward corralled a tape-to-tape pass by Devon Skoleski for a breakaway, converting his rebound off Flodell's right pad.
Following several solid shifts by Everett in the offensive zone, Dewar created chaos to generate a 2-0 lead, courtesy Skrumeda's one-timed blast from the blueline. Dewar chiseled the puck away from Sahvan Khaira at the left boards and slipped a pass to Skrumeda's wheelhouse, stationed at the center point. Skrumeda beat Flodell under the crossbar for his first goal of the season at 15:47.
The Silvertips shut down Seattle's attempt to get to the net in the third period, allowing just seven shots on goal. Hart's last serious test came on Jamal Watson's break at the right wing, followed up by Hart's stick save and a rebound chance by Scott Eansor at the goal mouth.
Flodell took the loss with 22 saves.
