Game Story
It didn't take long for Taylor Cooper to make his presence felt drawing into tonight's game. The over-age forward opened the match with a great scoring chance while drawing a penalty. He followed that up with a couple good opportunities on the ensuing powerplay. The Blue and White enjoyed three straight powerplay chances, but couldn't beat rookie netminder Ian Scott who made 12 saves in the frame. Daniel Wapple wasn't nearly as busy at the other end, stopping five Raider shots in a scoreless first period.
The goal drought continued for both teams into the second period. The Pats best chance of the frame came on the powerplay when rookie Jake Leschyshyn slid the puck through his legs, but couldn't tuck the puck around Scott's outstretched pad. The game got physical when James Hilsendager dropped Reid Gardiner with a big, clean hit. Luke Coleman challenged Hilsendager and the two went toe-to-toe. Wapple handled eight Raiders shots while Scott stopped nine from the Pats to keep the game scoreless after forty minutes.
The goals finally came in the third period. The Raiders struck first, using the powerplay to break the deadlock with just over eight minutes left. Austin Glover went cross-crease to find Simon Stransky who potted the game's first marker. That set the stage for Ian Scott to defend the Raiders lead. He robbed Lane Zablocki of the tying goal on two glorious opportunities. Despite the 16-year old's heroics, the Queen City Kids wouldn't be denied a tying marker. With Wapple on the bench, Connor Hobbs' point shot directed into the net off a Raider trying to block the shot, sending the game to overtime tied 1-1. In the three-on-three period, Vojtech Budik found Jesse Lees all alone in front of the Pats net and he potted the winner, sending Prince Albert home with the 2-1 win.
