Spokane Chiefs News Release

Everett, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs put up a goal in each period, but it wasn't enough against the division-leading Everett Silvertips as they pulled away with a 6-3 victory Friday night.

The Chiefs were quick to strike first, with Carter Streek rifling a shot into the top of the net just over a minute into the game. But the goal wasn't called initially, and as the Chiefs celebrated on the boards the Silvertips took the puck the other way and nearly scored a goal of their own. Streek's goal was confirmed after video review, with the assist going to rookie defenseman Saige Weinstein.

Everett chipped in their first goal of the game at 18:24 in the first (Michael Gut) to tie things up 1-1 heading into the break.

Spokane took back the lead in the second when Ty Cheveldayoff swept a rebound from Raegan Wiles in for his sixth goal and tenth point of the year (4:13). It's the first time this season that Cheveldayoff has scored in back-to-back games.

The rest of the second period was all Silvertips, with Jackson Berezowski (9:50), Ben Hemmerling (17:10) and Austin Roest (17:32) all scoring to give Everett a 4-2 advantage.

The Silvertips padded that lead four minutes into the final frame when rookie Niko Huuhtanen scored his 29th goal of the season to make it 5-2.

During a power play a little over halfway through the period, Reed Jacobson fed the puck across the ice to Wiles at the far point who fired the puck into the twine to bring the Chiefs within two.

That's as close as Spokane would get, though, as Huuhtanen swiped the puck down ice and capitalized on an empty net opportunity at 18:18 to cap the scoring at 6-3.

Manny Panghli got the start in net for Spokane, stopping 26-of-31 shots faced, while Braden holt turned aside 30 of the Chiefs' 33 shots.

Spokane went 2-for-7 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Up next, the Chiefs head home to host the rival Tri-City Americans Saturday night. It's the Miller Lite St. Paddy's Day Jersey Giveaway, as the Chiefs will wear special St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys to be auctioned off with proceeds going to charity. Wear your green!
