The Spokane Chiefs downed the Kelowna Rockets 2-1 on Wednesday night at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, WA.

Skating with ten forwards, the Chiefs snapped a six-game losing streak. Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Bear Hughes power the Chiefs past the Rockets scoring the opening goal then set up the game-winner.

The Rockets power play was shut out for the second straight game, with the Chiefs thwarting all five Kelowna man advantages.

Pavel Novak scored the lone goal of the game for the Rockets, extending his point streak to eight games. Rockets starter Talyn Boyko made 24 saves on 26 shots.

While playing four-on-four hockey, Bear Hughes (5) powered his way past Noah Dorey and Nolan Flamand to score the lone goal of the first period.

Cordel Larson (2) connected on a cross-ice feed from Hughes while on the power play to extend Spokane's lead. Flamand won the faceoff clean back to Pavel Novak (9) who hopped on the puck and fired it past Mason Beaupit with 59 seconds left on the clock in the second.

The Chiefs outshot the Rockets 26-24.

Caden Price, Andrew Cristall, Rilen Kovacevic, Logan Dochuk and Grady Lenton were the Rockets scratches. Price and Cristall are currently away. representing Canada at the Captial City Challenge in Ottawa.

The Rockets will be in action on Friday when they return home to host the Chiefs, they'll then take on the Prince George Cougars on Saturday at Prospera Place. Tickets can be purchased at selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.

The current B.C. Provincial Health Office restrictions allow for 50% capacity at Prospera Place. All fans attending Rockets games will need to abide by the BC Provincial Health Authority, Prospera Place and the Western Hockey League's recently announced COVID-19 health and safety requirements which includes masks, double vaccination and their BC vaccine card.
