Spokane Chiefs News Release
Anthony Bardaro scored twice and added an assist in a 7-2 win by Spokane over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday night in the Chief's third straight pre-season victory. Spokane is now 3-1 with a Saturday date against the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick. Thursday's game was the first of two for the Chiefs this weekend at the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament hosted by Tri-City.
Bardaro, who had the game's first two goals, was one of six players to find the back of the net for Spokane as the Chiefs jumped out to a 6-0 lead, including 4-0 after 20-minutes, before Lethbridge got on the board.
The 18-year-old Bardaro is entering his second full season in Spokane after tallying five goals and 11 points in 63 games last year as a rookie.
Reid Gow, a 16-year-old rookie defenseman, scored his first of the pre-season at 13:31 and Collin Valcourt at 17:48 were Spokane's other goal scorers in the first. Gow was the Chiefs first round selection in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
Rookie Mike Aviani made it 5-0 at 6:42 of the second and Dominik Uher scored at 10:01 to make it 6-0.
Both of Lethbrige's goals came on the power play, the first at 12:56 of the second by Brady Ramsay.
Each team scored in the third, Matt Marantz for Spokane at 8:56 and Mark Reners for the Hurricanes at 17:10.
All seven of the Chiefs goals were even strength as they finished 0-5 on the power play and 3-5 on the penalty kill.
Spokane outshot Lethbridge 40-24.
Mac Engel started in net for the Chiefs and was 7-7 in 30:01. Chris Sharkey stopped 15 shots in 17 chances in 29:59.
Valcourt, Gow, Marantz and Uher all added assists for multiple point nights.
Three more pre-season games remain on the Chiefs schedule, including Saturday's 7:00 affair with the host club.
Spokane will host the Kootenay Ice on Saturday, September 18th at Eagles Ice-A-Rena in their final tune up prior to the regular season opener on September 25th in Tri-City.
