Portland Winterhawks News Release

Winterhawks center Ryan Johansen has signed a standard three-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who selected him fourth overall in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Johansen will play with other rookies and prospects for the Blue Jackets' entry in the annual Traverse City (Michigan) tournament beginning this weekend, then report to the team's main training camp that begins September 18.

"We're excited for Ryan that he has signed with Columbus. I know they will be very impressed with him at camp as he has made significant strides since the end of last season," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston.

Last season, his first in Portland, Johansen registered 25 goals and 44 assists for 69 points in 71 games, second among Winterhawks in scoring and second among all WHL rookies. He also led the team in scoring in the playoffs, totaling 18 points in 13 games, which also led all WHL rookies in postseason action. He was the highest-drafted Winterhawk since Glen Wesley was taken third overall in 1987, and in August he was one of three Winterhawks invited to Canada's development camp for the 2011 World Junior Championship team.

Season tickets for the 2010-11 season are on sale now. Prices start at just $10.50 per game while a limited number of front row glass seats are available at only $23.50 per game. Contact the Winterhawks at 503-236-HAWK or seats@winterhawks.com to secure your seat for all 36 home games.
