Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Anthony Bardaro had two goals and 12 different players recorded a point, as the Spokane Chiefs (3-1) downed the Lethbridge Hurricanes (0-1) 7-2 in the night cap of Day 1 of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament. Lethbridge will return to the Toyota Center ice tomorrow night when they play the host Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m. Meanwhile, the Chiefs will have an off-day Friday before returning to play Saturday night, also against the tournament hosts at 7:05 p.m.
The Chiefs jumped on top early, as Bardaro got the scoring started just 1:42 into the game. Nearly seven minutes later, Bardaro answered again to put the Chiefs up 2-0. It would be the start of six straight Spokane goals over a 30-minute span, which also got goals from Reid Gow, Collin Valcourt, Mike Aviani and Dominik Uher.
Lethbridge highlighted their side of the scoreboard with 7:04 left in the second period, as Derek Ryckman scored while on the power play.
But, the Chiefs regained any momentum the Hurricanes may have generated, as Matt Marantz scored just before the nine-minute mark of the third period. Lethbridge would get a late power play goal from Mark Reners to round out the scoring in the contest.
Mac Engel played the first half of the contest in the Chiefs' net, stopping all seven shots he faced. Chris Sharkey came in for the second half, picking up 15 saves on 17 shots. Meanwhile, Dylan Tait started in goal for Lethbridge, collecting 21 saves on 27 shots. Tanner Kovacs played the second half of the game, stopping 12-of-13.
