T-Birds Take Down Tips in Kennewick

Kennewick, WA-The Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Everett Silvertips 6-3 Thursday evening in Game 1 of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament at Toyota Center in Kennewick.

The T-Birds have four games remaining in the preseason. They play two more games at the Red Lion Hotels' Preseason Tournament. They face the Kootenay Ice at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 10, and the Lethbridge Hurricanes at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.

The T-Birds head back up to Everett to take on the Silvertips on Friday, September 17, at 7:35 at Comcast Arena.

The exhibition schedule ends on Saturday, September 18, when the T-Birds host the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.

The Silvertips jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Clayton Cumiskey and Ryan Murray.

The T-Birds came back with four unanswered goals in the first period to take a 4-2 lead after 20 minutes. Chance Lund scored a shorthanded goal at 5:29 off an assist from Burke Gallimore. Connor Sanvido tied the game 2-2 at 13:13 of period on assists from Colin Jacobs and Brenden Dillon. Marcel Noebels put the T-Birds in front 3-2 at 14:20 of the period. Luke Lockhart had the only assist on Noebels' goal. Sanvido scored a second goal, this one at 16:52 of the period, to give Seattle a 4-2 lead. Mitch Elliot and Jacobs had assists.

Seattle outshot Everett 15-12 in the first period.

Seattle took a 5-2 lead at 6:36 of the second period on a goal by defenseman Austin Frank. Jacob Doty and Jacobs had the assists.

The Silvertips got the goal back at 7:01 of the second when Cody Fowlie scored on an assist from Tyler Giebel.

Lund increased the Seattle lead to three goals at 13:17 of the second on a power-play goal. Gallimore and Dillon had assists.

The T-Birds outshot Everett 14-10 in the third period and 39-25 in the game.

Seattle goalie Michael Salmon played the whole game and made 22 saves on 25 shots.

Luke Siemens started for Everett and he made 33 saves on 39 shots in 60 minutes of action.

The T-Birds will open the regular season against the Everett Silvertips on Friday, September 24 at Comcast Arena in Everett at 7:35pm. The T-Birds will hold their home opener on Saturday, September 25 at 7:05p.m. against long time rival, the Portland Winterhawks. The T-Birds will wrap up their opening weekend in Kennewick against the Tri-City Americans on Sunday, September 26, at 5p.m. at the Toyota Center.

T-Birds single game tickets for the 2010-11 season are available online at the T-Birds website and at the ShoWare Center box office. The ShoWare Center Box Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday game days at 10 a.m. and Sunday game days at noon.
