Chiefs Comeback Falls Just Short

January 6, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release

The Johnstown Chiefs third period comeback came up short, as the Reading Royals downed Johnstown, 4-3.

The Chiefs trailed 3-1 entering the third period, but stormed back to tie the game at 3. Dmitri Tarabrin scored his third goal in 4 games, to bring the Chiefs within one. Paul Caponigri took a pretty pass in the slot from Brandon Elliott and put it past Royals goalie, Futaka Fukufuji.

The Chiefs surge did not last, as the Royals scored with just 2:37 left. An exceptional individual effort by Royal forward Chris Bala put the Chiefs away. Bala dove past Ian Manzano, chipping the puck to the crease. T.J. Kemp hit the post, but the puck caromed right back to Bala, who beat Boutin.

The Chiefs outshot the Royals, 49-25, putting up 19 in the first and 18 in the third. Jonathan Boutin was stellar, despite stopping 21 of 25.

The Chiefs are back in action tomorrow night, at home against the Dayton Bombers. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm. The Chiefs remain in a 4th place tie with Toledo. Tickets are available by calling the War Memorial Box Office, 814-536-5156.
