Peoria Chiefs News Release

Beloit, WI- For the second night in a row, the Peoria Chiefs turned in a shutout effort as they blanked the Beloit Sky Carp 5-0. Dating back to Wednesday, the Chiefs have now held the Sky Carp scoreless for 25 consecutive innings.

In a rematch from June 8, Ian Bedell faced off with Beloit starter Cade Gibson. Both starters cruised early on, as the teams combined for one baserunner in the first two innings.

Peoria broke through against Gibson in the third inning thanks in large part to the bottom of their order. After Tyler Reichenborn and Brody Moore each singled, Francisco Hernandez tripled from the nine spot, pushing the Chiefs to a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, R.J. Yeager doubled home Hernandez to make it 3-0. Yeager manufactured Peoria's fourth and final run of the inning. The Peoria first baseman went sliding into third on a stolen base and was able to score following a throwing error from Beloit catcher Joe Mack.

Bedell went back to work and stranded two Beloit runners to end the third inning. He was lifted following the inning after reaching his pitch count. He whiffed four Beloit batters.

The Chiefs turned to Edgar Manzo who continued Peoria's fine work on the mound. The right-hander twirled four scoreless innings in relief and allowed just one hit. Manzo punched out five Beloit batters to earn the win.

Peoria scored an insurance tally in the ninth inning. With two outs in the inning, Francisco Hernandez hit a fly ball to the warning track in straight away center field. Beloit's Javier Sanoja appeared to make the catch but the ball later trickled out of his mitt, allowing Hernandez to motor all the way to third. He later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Andrew Marrero did not need any additional run support, however. He retired all six batters he faced and recorded three strikeouts.

The Chiefs recorded their fourth shutout in their last eight games with the win. Dating back to August 1, Peoria pitching has a 1.21 ERA, the lowest in all of Minor League Baseball.

Peoria will look for their 12th win in their last 13 games when the series continues Saturday in Beloit. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
