
Chiefs Back to .500 With 9-3 Win

Battle Creek, MIâ The Peoria Chiefs scored in each of the first three innings and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays Thursday night at C.O. Brown stadium. With the win the Chiefs are back to .500 at 27-27 on the season and have clinched a winning road trip with one game remaining before they return to O'Brien Field.
With two outs in the first Ryan Harvey doubled down the rightfield line off D-Rays starter Jino Gonzalez. Luis Montanez followed with a RBI singled and advanced to second on the throw home. Bo Flowers drove Montanez home with a single for a 2-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning.
After Southwest Michigan got on the board in the 1st, Drew Larsen led off the Chiefs 2nd with a double and advanced to third on a ground out. An errant pickoff throw from D-Rays catcher Christian Lopez allowed Larsen to score for a 3-1 Peoria lead.
The Chiefs put more breathing room between themselves and Southwest Michigan in the third. Eric Patterson led off with a walk and Aaron Sisk doubled into the right-center gap. Harvey worked the count to 3-2 before singling up the middle scoring both runners and giving the Chiefs a 5-1 lead.
Jesse Estrada (3-4) made the early lead stand up as he tossed six innings to pick up the win. The right-hander tied a career high with five strikeouts and is now 2-0 on the season against the D-Rays.
The Chiefs added insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings as Patterson doubled home a run, Montanez brought home another and Alan Rick singled home a pair. Paul Schappert and Alfredo Polanco combined for three innings of scoreless relief to close out the 9-3 win.

Jesse Estrada (SP) & Ryan Harvey (OF)- Harvey got the offense started and Estrada kept the D-Rays from coming back as the Chiefs moved back to .500. Harvey snapped out of an 0-for-12 slump by going 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, intentional walk and two RBI. Estrada matched a season and carerr high by striking out five and allowing just five hits over six innings.
Notes... Montanez has hit safely in six straight...Harvey now has three 3-hit games on the season...Larsen doubled twice and now has 10 on the season...The Chiefs have not been over .500 on the season...The two teams play the final game of the four game series Friday night at 7:05 EST...The Chiefs will have LH Chris Shaver on the mound against RH Andrew Sorrenstine...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
