Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA -- Marshall Hubbard homered to put the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers ahead 3-2 in the fourth inning of their game against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Thursday afternoon. Pitchers Jason Snyder and Eric O'Flaherty kept the Kernels off the board the rest of the way in a 6-2 Rattler win at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The win stopped a short two game losing streak for the Rattlers.
The Rattlers (31-23) scored a run in the first inning. Sebastien Boucher doubled with one out. Asdrubal Cabrera singled to move Boucher to third. Mike Wilson drove a flyball deep to right for a run scoring sacrifice fly and a 1-0 Rattler lead.
Cedar Rapids (22-32) took the lead with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning. Warner Madrigal doubled with two outs and nobody on base. Jordan Renz singled Madrigal in to tie the game. Then, Renz stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Richard Giannotti. That would be it for the Kernel offense.
Snyder pitched six innings, gave up those two runs on seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter for his sixth win of the season.
Wilson started the Timber Rattler fourth inning with a single. Hubbard followed with a long home run to right that put Wisconsin back in front 3-2. Josh Womack doubled in a third run in the inning to push the Rattler lead to 4-2.
Wisconsin tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning. Wilson doubled to start the inning. Hubbard was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Kernel reliever Jamie Douglas threw wildly to first on a pick-off play and Wilson scored all the way from second as Hubbard took third. Omar Falcon drove in Hubbard with a sacrifice fly for a 6-2 Rattler lead.
O'Flaherty pitched three scoreless innings with a pair of walks and a pair of strikeouts for his sixth save of the season.
The final game of Wisconsin's twelve game road trip is Friday night. Casey Abrams (3-3, 5.70) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jesse Smith (2-4, 5.47ERA) is the scheduled starter for Cedar Rapids. Game time is 7:00pm.
