Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today two trades as they prepare for this weekend's three-in-three against the Elmira Jackals and Reading Royals.
In a trade with the Wheeling Nailers the Chiefs have acquired Thomas Beauregard and future considerations in exchange for Jordan Morrison. Beauregard, 24, currently ranks second in the ECHL with 34 goals through 57 games played, and has recorded 15 points (11G, 4A) in nine games against the Chiefs this season. A third-year pro from Montreal, Quebec, Beauregard won the Kelly Cup with Cincinnati in 2008 and paced the team as a rookie with 31 regular season goals. He is the all-time leader in goals scored for his junior team, the QMJHL's Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He topped all Titan skaters with 71 goals in 2006-07 and finished with 154 for his junior career.
Morrison, acquired from the Toledo Walleye as part of a three-team trade involving Chris Zarb and Dominic Osman, spent just under a month with the black and gold. The Uxbridge, Ontario native registered four points (2G, 2A) and a minus-13 rating in 10 games with the Chiefs.
In a separate transaction, the Chiefs acquired defenseman Anthony Sarno from the Toledo Walleye in exchange for future considerations. A fourth-year pro out of Springfield, Massachusetts, Sarno, 24, will be joining his second ECHL team this season. The 6-1, 205-pound blueliner skated in 12 games for the Walleye and registered four penalty minutes and a minus-three rating. He previously spent time in the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern Professional hockey leagues over the last two seasons.
Beauregard and Sarno are expected to be in the lineup for this weekend's games.
Mark your calendars! The Chiefs return to home ice on Sunday, March 7 against the Elmira Jackals at 2:05. Grab your non-perishable food items and bring them with you as the Chiefs and the Johnstown Rotary Club are teaming up for their second-annual Face Off Against Hunger. Those who contribute to the food drive will be eligible for a $12 adult walk up ticket. Also, don't forget to bring your skates for the post-game skate with the Chiefs. Good seats still remain and for individual tickets, go to ticketmaster.com or call 1-800-745-3000.
