Countdown To Face-Off

For the first time since opening night, the Kalamazoo Wings will head to the Sovereign Center to battle the Reading Royals. Tonight is the first of two meetings between the teams this week, both in Reading. On the season, the K-Wings are 4-0-0-0 against the Royals.

Eliminating a two-goal deficit last night, the K-Wings extended their unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-0-1) by defeating the Johnstown Chiefs 4-3 in a shootout. With 71 points, Kalamazoo remains six points behind Cincinnati for first place in the North Division and in fourth place overall in the American Conference.

Winners of two straight overall and four straight at home, Reading returns to the Sovereign Center to commence a three-game home stand. Six of the next seven games for the Royals will occur at home, where they own a record of 16-10-0-2.

Scoring shorthanded last night, forward Brian McGuirk is tied for the ECHL lead with Wheeling's Aaron Clarke with four shorthanded tallies. McGuirk, who is on a three-game point streak (3 goals, 2 assists), has earned points (5 goals, 6 assists) in seven out of his last eight contests.

Extra Hockey

Kalamazoo's last three road games have been decided in either overtime or a shootout (2-1). Dating back to January 1st, the K-Wings last four road victories have occurred on the final shot of the game, three in either overtime or a shootout and one in regulation with 1.3 seconds remaining.
