Spokane Chiefs News Release

Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs hit the road this weekend to take on two divisional foes, starting with the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday and then the rival Tri-City Americans on Saturday. The Chiefs are seeking their first win of the season against each opponent.

Chiefs Swedish forward Rasmus Ekström has arrived in Spokane after signing his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement last week and is available to make his Western Hockey League debut this weekend. Ekström, Spokane's second-round pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft, played 39 games with Sodertalje SK J20 last season, where he piled up 31 points on 15 goals and 15 assists. In nine games with the same club this season, he's chipped in four goals and seven total points over nine games.

The Chiefs will be missing rookie winger Chase Harrington this weekend, as he travels to Prince Edward Island to compete with Team Canada Red at the World U17 Hockey Challenge. Harrington has found his stride of late, logging five points in the last five games, including his first career WHL goal on October 28 against the Everett Silvertips. He chipped in an assist on the Chiefs' only other goal of the game to complete a two-point night. Other current Chiefs that have played in the World U17 Hockey Challenge include forward Berkly Catton (2006) and defenseman Saige Weinstein (2005).

Puck drops against the Thunderbirds Friday at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's game against the Americans kicks off at 6:05 p.m. Coverage starts a half hour before puck drop on 94.1 FM The Bear on Friday and 103.5 FM The Game on Saturday. Games can be streamed on WHL Live.
