November 2, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
For the third meeting in a row this season, the Prince Albert Raiders got the better of the Regina Pats, this time taking them down 4-1 on the road. Four different Raiders scored in the win, while Chase Coward stopped 22 of 23 shots in the win for the Raiders.
The Raiders found the lone goal of the first period, but it didn't come until the 18:21 mark. Sloan Stanick fired a shot far side past Kelton Pyne, catching a piece of the post and going in for his fifth goal of the season. Krzysztof Macias and Harrison Lodewyk picked up assists on the goal, as the Raiders took a 1-0 lead.
Both teams had two powerplays in the first period, but neither side could capitalize with the extra man. After 20 minutes, Prince Albert outshot Regina by a slim 7-6 margin, and went into the second period holding onto their 1-0 lead.
Only one goal was scored in the second period, and it was Cole Peardon extending the Raiders' lead to 2-0 with 9:42 left in the middle frame. Taking a pass from Hayden Pakkala, Peardon ripped a shot home from the slot for his third goal of the season. Easton Kovacs picked up the secondary assist on the goal, as Prince Albert's lead was doubled.
Regina responded in the third period, making it a 2-1 game 2:39 into the final frame. Corbin Vaughan snuck a shot five hole past Chase Coward, scoring his third goal of the season. Regina started the third period buzzing in the Raiders end, and were finally rewarded with their first goal of the game.
After Borya Valis was handed a double minor for high sticking, the Raiders set up shop in the Regina end, looking to restore their two goal lead. In the second half of their powerplay, Ryder Ritchie set up Niall Crocker for Prince Albert's third goal of the night. From behind the net, Ritchie fed a pass to the doorstep for Crocker, and the big forward was able to jam home his sixth goal of the season to give the Raiders an important 3-1 lead with 4:58 left in the third, dousing any momentum the Pats had going.
Krzysztof Macias sealed the deal with 1:55 left in regulation, scoring into an empty net to make it a 4-1 lead with his eighth goal of the season.
With the win, Prince Albert picked up their third win of the season over Regina, improving their regular season record to 9-6-0-1.
The green and gold are back in action tomorrow night at home against the Saskatoon Blades. Puck drop from the Art Hauser Centre is at 7pm.
