Charlotte Checkers News Release

Gwinnett, GA - The Charlotte Checkers lost their third consecutive game as they were downed by the Gwinnett Gladiators on the road by a score of 4-2.

The Gladiators struck in the first period at 5:38 after Pat Bateman fired a shot that beat Checkers netminder, Maxime Daigneault putting up Gwinnett 1-0. The Gladiators would score again when Bruce Graham streaked into the Checkers zone and flipped a nice pass to Matt Siddall who blasted it past Daigneault at 17:44.

During the middle frame, the Gladiators continued their dominance when Pat Bateman's shot was stopped by Daigneault but the rebound went right to Gladiators forward, Jordan Fox who blasted it home at 4:51 putting Gwinnett up 3-0. Graham did another great job of setting up a goal. This time on the power play, Graham fed defenseman Chris Cava who was stationed in front of the net. Cava made no mistake and scored to make it 4-0 at 10:22.

In the third period, the Checkers scored very early when David Rutherford skated in from the left wing and stuff the puck inside the far post and into the net past Gwinnett goalie Kevin Nastiuk at: 11 bringing the game to a 4-1 Gladiators lead. Joe Zappala would give the Checkers some hope scoring an unassisted short-handed goal at 13:08 cutting the Gwinnett lead to 4-2 but it wouldn't be enough to close the gap and the Gladiators would skate away with the win.
