Chiefs Bedevil Trenton; Win Sixth Straight

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs won their sixth in a row defeating the Trenton Devils 6-2 Friday night.

The Chiefs wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just 1:13 in, when Ryan Garlock took the pass from Matt Robinson on a 2 on1 and slammed home the game's first goal. Only eight seconds later, off a Devil's turnover in their zone, Randy Rowe found Brian Deeth for an easy score. The Chiefs were not done yet, as goalie Kris Mayotte hit Kyle Wharton on an outlet pass, Wharton then found a streaking Petr Pohl who fired a bullet top shelf past Trenton goalie Jason Smith at the 14:54 mark to make it 3-0. In this case four was a charm as Alex Penner capped the first quarter scoring just 1:36 later when Rowe found Penner who went five hole for his first goal and point of the season.

The Chiefs picked up where they left off, scoring another quick goal to start the second period. Petr Pohl scored for the second time off of a feed from Jon Landry 4:33 in to make it 5-0. This goal came against the Devils emergency backup goalie Matt Conti, who took over for an injured Jason Smith to start the second period. Conti did keep the Chiefs quiet the rest of the second period, stopping the rest of the Chiefs eight shots on goal. Trenton got on the board when David Leaderer took the pass from Tyler Burton and beat the red-hot Mayotte to make the score 5-1.

The Devils cut the lead to 5-2 after scoring a power play goal 9:01 into the final frame with a goal from Ryan Gunderson with assists from Burton and Dan Travis. That was as close as they would get as the Chiefs finished them off with a power play score of their own. Greg Gallagher got his fist goal of the season getting a great centering feed from Petr Pohl. Mike Knight also assisted on the play.

Kris Mayotte stopped 26 0f 28 shots to improve to 5-0-0. The Chiefs were 1 for 4 on the power play.
