Checkers Announce Playoff Roster

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced today the team's 23-man playoff roster for the upcoming 2009 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs. Charlotte will battle the South Carolina Stingrays in the first round presented by Bud Light.

The 23 players on the Charlotte roster include two goaltenders, eight defenseman and 13 forwards.

"We are very excited about the start of the post-season and I feel this is a lineup that will truly have a chance to compete for the Kelly Cup. It has been a grinding battle against the Stingrays all season and we anticipate a hard-fought series," remarked Wilkinson.

The Checkers first two playoff games will take place on April 9 and 11 at The Extreme Ice Center in Indian Trail, N.C.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
