Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, will gain power in every aspect of the game with the three additions made to the playoff roster that was submitted to the ECHL. Kevin Quick, Riku Helenius and Jared Ross join 20 others for the Jackals post season.

Kevin Quick comes to Elmira from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. In 49 games in Norfolk this season, the six foot tall 185 pound defenseman netted one goal and added eight assists. To add to Quick's' Resume, he played in four games this season for the Tampa Bay Lighting of the NHL, registering no goals, assists, points or penalty minutes. Selected by the Tampa Bay Lighting in third round, 78th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Quick will be a solid addition on the blue line.

Elmira goalkeeper Michael Teslak will get some company from Norfolk net minder Riku Helenius. Like Quick, Helenius brings some NHL experience to the line up with one game played in the show this season stopping all seven shots he faced. Selected in the first round, 15th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Helenius has played in 24 games this season with Norfolk compiling an 8-15-0 record with a 0.918 save percentage and a 2.72 goals against average. The native of Palkane, Finland started the season with the now defunct Augusta Lynx of the ECHL.

"When bringing in players for the playoffs you want them to be not only good, but motivated. These guys want to come and contribute." Said Jackals Head Coach Steve Martinson. "While being key players for Norfolk, both, will now get invaluable playoff experience with us."

With the addition of an NHL experienced defenseman and goaltender the Jackals also added standout St. Lawrence defenseman Jarred Ross on decision day. In 32 games this season, the native of Stony Island, Nova Scotia compiled five goals and eight assists for 13 points. Ross is currently loaned to the Providence Bruins of the AHL.
