Charleston Scores Early, Tops Legends 8-2

Aaron Judge drove in four runs as the Charleston RiverDogs scored seven runs in the first two innings on their way to an 8-2 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night in front of 5,343 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Charleston scored four in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Michael O'Neill struck out, but reached first base after a wild pitch. Tyler Wade and Judge followed with singles to produce the game's first run. Reymond Nunez walked, loading the bases, and after Miguel Andujar flied out to short left field, Dustin Fowler doubled to right field, scoring Wade and Judge. Nunez moved to third on Fowler's hit and scored on a grounder by Eduardo de Oleo.

In the top of the second, O'Neill walked with one out, moved to second on an errant pickoff throw by Legends starter Luke Farrell, and to third on a single by Wade. Judge followed with his ninth home run of the year, and the RiverDogs led 7-0.

The Legends scored an unearned run the sixth inning, and Charleston added a run in the top of the eighth inning.

Lexington's Elier Hernandez led off the bottom of the ninth with his sixth home run of the season to close out the scoring.

Charleston starter Rookie Davis (3-6) pitched the first five innings and got the win. Chaz Hebert worked the final four innings and earned his first save.

Farrell (1-6) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends and RiverDogs meet again Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. It will be Military Appreciation Night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. A softball game featuring the national Wounded Warrior team will begin at 5 p.m. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. The softball game will begin at 5 p.m. Fans attending the softball game will need to have a Legends game ticket.

Fans with a valid military ID can buy a box seat for five dollars. A five-dollar donation going directly to the Wounded Warrior team will be accepted at the gates.

After the game, there will be a special auction of the military-themed jerseys worn by Legends players during the game, with proceeds going to Military Missions. A fireworks show will follow the auction.
