Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 13, 2014) - The Greensboro Grasshoppers plated a pair of late runs aided by Intimidators errors to beat Kannapolis, 2-1, on Friday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium. The Grasshoppers have now won eight straight games including the first two games of this 4-game series.
Greensboro waiting until the seventh inning to get on the board, as Justin Bohn singled and later scored on a fielding error by left fielder Carl Thomore to tie the game, 1-1. In the eighth, Chad Wallach led off with a base hit and moved to second on an error before advancing to third on a Rehiner Cordova single to load the bases. Yefri Perez, facing James Dykstra for the fourth time on the night, then blooped a base hit into left field to plate Wallach for a 2-1 lead, chasing the Intimidators starter from the game.
Dykstra (3-6) opened with six scoreless innings of one-hit ball, at one point retiring 12 straight batters from the third inning into the seventh. He finished his night after 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on six hits while striking out three. Dykstra, a sixth round pick of the White Sox in the June 2013 draft, became the first Intimidators starter to work into the eighth inning this season.
Omar Narvaez took advantage of loaded bases in the first inning, driving a base hit to right field to cash Cleuluis Rondon for an early 1-0 lead.
Trey Michalczewski doubled in the first inning to extend his career-long hitting streak to 16 games. He finished the night 1-for-4. The 19-year-old third baseman is now batting .362 (21-58) in his last 16 games, with 13 of his 21 hits going for extra bases.
Greensboro starter Cody Crabaugh worked 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits before giving way to Esmerling De La Rose (1-0), who earned the relief win. Tyler Kinley tossed a scoreless ninth for the save (2).
Tyler Barnette came out of the bullpen to work the final 1 and 2/3 innings on the mound for Kannapolis, keeping the Grasshoppers off the board the rest of the way.
The Intimidators continue the home stand on Saturday against the Greensboro Grasshoppers as Kannapolis sends RHP Thad Lowry (2-3, 4.35) to the mound against RHP Ryan Newell (6-4, 2.48). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 pm. and post-game fireworks presented by Bank of America.
