Catton Scores Twice As Chiefs Knock Off Wheat Kings In Rare Matchup Against Eastern Conference Foe

Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Chiefs hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday Night in a rare matchup against an Eastern Conference opponent. The festivities tipped off early with the One Tree Hard Cider Fall Fest before the game. Fans had the opportunity to enter the arena early, celebrate fall with games, food, and seasonal ciders, plus hear interviews from Chiefs hockey staff.
On the ice it was Brandon who controlled the first period with a pair of goals from Anthony Wilson, his first two of the season. Kayden Sadhra-Kang scored assists on both scoring plays with Luke Shipley and Charlie Elick registering the other assists.
In the second period, Chiefs star Berkly Catton took the cross-ice pass from Brayden Crampton and slammed the puck past Brandon rookie netminder Ethan Eskit on the one timer. After a late scoring change, it was Chase Bertholet who was credited with the secondary assist.
For Catton it was his third game in a row scoring a goal, but he was not finished there. Twice was nice for Catton as he glided down the left side before sniping it past Eskit in a flash. Chiefs newcomer Layton Feist (acquired in trade earlier this week) grabbed his first point as a Chief with the assist. Harrington scored his first assist of the season on the play.
The period would finish tied up at two, setting up another tight third frame. Through two periods both teams had two goals and 20 shots on target.
At the 8:48 mark Spokane found the net from an unlikely source. Forward Cole Wadsworth planted in front of the net to accept a tight angle pass from Lukáš Král where he buried it for his first career WHL goal.
Chase Harrington added his second assist on the night and just his third point of his young WHL career.
The remainder of the third period flew past, with both teams tallying nine shots and numerous goal scoring chances, including a fierce shot off the post from the Wheat Kings which would have tied it up late. In the end Dawson Cowan blanked Brandon over the final 40 minutes and registered 27 saves on the night.
It was one of the cleanest games of the season for Spokane so far, with only two penalties called on the Chiefs. Spokane went 1/2 on the power play and 1/1 on the penalty kill.
Berkly Catton has now scored a goal in three consecutive games, with four goals over that span. He is up to 11 points on the season (6G, 5A) and has failed to record a point in only one game this season. Brayden Crampton added an assist on Catton's first goal, making it nine on the season so far. He is also on 11 points (2G, 9A) and like Catton has scored a point in every game but one so far this season. With the assist tonight, Lukáš Král now has four straight games on the scoresheet with five total points in that span (2G, 3A).
The Chiefs hit the road next with two games in Victoria and a third at Vancouver next weekend. Follow along on 103.5 The Game or WHL Live.
