October 14, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders led by three goals on two different occasions on Saturday night, as they picked up a 6-3 road win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night. Six different Raiders scored, while Chase Coward had a spectacular performance in goal, stopping 45 of 48 Warriors shots.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead 6:07 into the first period, after being hemmed in their own zone for a couple of shifts. Aiden Oiring sent a lead feed to Sloan Stanick up center ice, and the overage winger had a clear cut breakaway. Stanick deked to his backhand and slipped a shot past the outstretched pad of Dmitri Fortin, who was making his WHL debut in goal for Moose Jaw. Stanick broke a four game goal-less drought with his second goal of the season to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

That lead became 2-0 with 9:00 left in the first period. After a quick cycle play in the offensive zone, Ryder Ritchie fired a shot on goal that Fortin made a glove save on, but the rookie netminder couldn't hang on to the rebound. The puck was coughed up right in front of the net, and Aiden Oiring pounced on it, burying his fifth goal in four games. His sixth of the season gave Prince Albert a 2-0 lead just past the midway mark of the first period.

In the second period, Brayden Dube gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead just 4:07 into the frame. The Roblin, MB product skated down the right wing and fired a shot that deflected off a Warriors stick and over Fortin to the back of the net. Dube's second goal of the season was Prince Albert's only goal of the second period.

Chase Coward was under siege in the second period, as the Warriors threw 26 shots at the Raiders' netminder in the middle frame alone. The overager made a flurry of big saves, but the Warriors eventually did find the back of the net. With 10:38 left in the period, Harper Lolacher buried a backhand shot to make it a 3-1 game. Around seven minutes later, it became a 3-2 game, as Atley Calvert buried a rebound after a missed point shot. Calvert's goal came on a Warriors powerplay, and it brought the game to within one goal.

After 40 minutes, Moose Jaw outshot Prince Albert 37-29, but the Raiders were holding on to their 3-2 lead heading into the third and final regulation frame.

The Warriors tied things up 3-3 with 10:10 left in the third period. Lynden Lakovic tried a Michigan goal that didn't work, but a few seconds later the puck came back out in front to him. Lakovic snapped a shot over Coward and in, tying the game at 3-3.

Less than a minute later, the Raiders took their lead right back, as Ryder Ritchie jumped in on the scoring action. Walking into the offensive zone, Ritchie cut from the left circle into the slot and sniped a shot far side past Fortin for his sixth goal of the season to give Prince Albert a 4-3 lead.

With 6:59 to go in regulation, the Raiders took a two goal lead on the powerplay. It was Cole Peardon who scored his first goal of the season, sniping a shot past Fortin's glove. The tally from the 17-year-old was a huge one, as it gave Prince Albert a 5-3 lead in the late stages of the game.

Niall Crocker scored an empty netter with one second left on the clock, and the Raiders walked out of Moose Jaw with a 6-3 win.

Prince Albert (6-3-0-0) returns home on Sunday night to take on the Saskatoon Blades. Puck drop is 6pm.
