Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
Niles, OH- The Tri-City ValleyCats beat the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 2-0 in a briskly moving two hour, twenty-seven minute game at Eastwood Field. The ValleyCats received outstanding pitching from Ronnie Martinez, who pitched seven scoreless innings; and timely hitting from Hunter Pence, who smacked two home runs.
Tri-City jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and the lead held up for the rest of the game. Drew Sutton doubled to lead off the game and advanced to third base when Hunter Pence grounded out against Scrappers starter Nelson Hiraldo. Ronnie Martinez went seven innings of scoreless baseball. He yielded just three hits, walked one batter, and struck out four Scrappers.
In the ninth inning, the ValleyCats pulled ahead with a four-run inning. James Cooper reached on first base with an error. Lou Santangelo hit a weak infield single that pushed Cooper to second base. After Edgar Babilonia was thrown out on a successful sacrifice bunt, there were runners on second and third base for Drew Sutton.
