Rolaids® Becomes Title Sponsor Of New York-Penn League Championship Series

ST. PETERSBURG, FL--Rolaids® antacids will be the official title sponsor of the 2004 New York-Penn League Championship Series, as announced today by the New York-Penn League, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and Minor League Baseball. The title sponsorship will include product sampling, banner advertising and in-game promotion at the New York-Penn League Championship Series and all preceding playoff games.

The New York-Penn League playoffs will begin on September 6 when four teams – three division winners and one wild card team – will compete in two best-of-three series. The winner of each playoff series will advance to the 2004 Rolaids New York-Penn League Championship Series, also a best-of-three series, on September 9 or 10.

The New York-Penn League is the oldest continuously operated Class A league in Minor League Baseball and has enjoyed fantastic success, particularly over the last decade. In 2003, the New York-Penn League drew over 1.7 million fans, the second highest attendance total in league history, falling just short of the 2002 record of 1.87 million fans. The year 2003 was also the ninth consecutive season that the New York-Penn League attendance topped 1 million fans.

Rolaids is a long-time supporter of Minor League Baseball, having awarded the Rolaids Relief Man Award to the best relief pitchers in all 16 domestic leagues of Minor League Baseball since 1981. The sponsorship of the 2004 New York-Penn League Championship Series is an extension of the Rolaids "Bat & Win $10,000 Game." In the Bat & Win Game, 10 finalists were chosen in random drawings and will bat against Hall of Fame relief pitcher Rollie Fingers in select Minor League ball parks this summer for a chance to win up to $10,000. There also will be Rolaids product and prize giveaways and an autograph session with Fingers in each ball park on Bat & Win game day.
