Former Spinner Matt Murton traded to Cubs at Trading Deadline
August 4, 2004 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Lowell Spinners News Release
At the trading deadline, the Boston Red Sox traded away Nomar Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs for Doug Mientkiewicz and Orlando Cabrera and it was a trade that created quite a stir with Red Sox Nation.
Also part of that trade, was former Spinners outfielder Matt Murton, who played last summer right here at LeLacheur Park.
Murton was one of the Red Sox top prospects and was having a tremendous season with the Sarasota Red Sox. In 102 games with Sarasota, Murton was hitting .302 with 11 home runs, 16 doubles, 60 runs scored, and 55 RBI.
The Spinners wish Murton, who is now playing with the Dayton Cubs, the best of luck on his continued dream to play in the Major Leagues.

The Spinners would like to congratulate Lyn Misserville of Dracut, who answered the trivia question correct in the last Spinners e-mail newsletter and won a David Givens autographed photo.
The question was "Who was the last Spinner to make the Major Leagues as of July 15, 2004?" The correct answer was Anastacio Martinez, who made his big league debut with the Boston Red Sox on May 22, 2004 one week after Kevin Youkilis made his debut.
